There has been a lot of confusion recently regarding the certification election requested by the rival association. Here are some facts you should be aware of:


  1. SRPE IS STILL YOUR SOLE CERTIFIED COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGENT. We still represent both the instructional and the educational support bargaining units and are actively and aggressively negotiating with the SRCSD for your 2016-2017 Master Contract.

  2. THE RIVAL ASSOCIATION HAS PETITIONED TO REPRESENT INSTRUCTIONAL PERSONNEL ONLY. Their petition to represent instructional personnel has NO effect on the representation of educational support personnel and SRPE will continue to represent the ESP bargaining unit regardless of the outcome of the instructional petition.

  3. AN ELECTION HAS NOT YET BEEN SCHEDULED FOR THE INSTRUCTIONAL BARGAINING UNIT. The rival organization wants you to think that an election is automatic. This is not true. Members of the bargaining unit have reported to us the fraudulent and misleading tactics employed by the rival association to obtain their signature cards. Members have been harassed and hounded by SREA representatives from their school-halls to their homes. In some cases, SREA agents have gone so far as to tell members that a card for SREA was actually a card for SRPE. The law gives SRPE the right to object to cards obtained by this sort of trickery, and we intend to exercise that right on your behalf.

  4. IF THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES RELATIONS COMMISSION (PERC) FINDS THAT A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF RIVAL CARDS ARE INVALID, THE PETITION WILL BE DISMISSED. If the petition is dismissed, NO ELECTION WILL BE HELD.

  5. IF SRPE WERE TO LOSE A REPRESENTATION ELECTION, THE EXISTING MASTER CONTRACT WITH SRCSD IS UNENFORCEABLE. The rival association is not a party to the Master Contract, and cannot enforce its provisions on your behalf. The Master Contract is between SRPE and the Santa Rosa County School Board. If SRPE is not your certified collective bargaining agent, the current contract provisions are essentially void. We can’t afford to let 42 years of negotiations on your behalf disappear! We value all of the members of our bargaining units, instructional and educational support alike. We will continue fighting to represent both units, and take all legal steps necessary to maintain our status with PERC. We will keep you informed of any relevant election dates, as well as who will be eligible to vote.


Our goals are simple. We want to continue to provide you with local workplace representation, superior professional liability insurance, legal aid, local benefits, and a continued focus on better working conditions and increased salaries.
